Woodworking has been my passion from an early age. After a long and rewarding professional career, I was able to devote a great deal of time to develop my artistic side. What I loved most about working with wood was the ability to mould it into any desired shape. Wood turning in particular opened a whole new world for me. As the wood turned on the lathe, the shapes came to me almost instinctively, as if a higher power was guiding my hands. I was able to mix exotic woods from all over the world to introduce various colours and grains to my pieces.
Perhaps one of my greatest achievements was having one of my projects selected for the cover of one of Lee Valley’s Catalogue. The lamp shown on the cover had to be made entirely out of wood. I combined a Banksia nut, Jatoba Cherrywood from Brazil, Padouk from Africa and Yellowheart from South America. The lamp was also fully functioning.
